In 2019, the small community of Lowry City, Missouri was awarded CDBG funds to renovate their existing, abandoned school building, converting it into a multi-purpose community center.
The existing space had been used as a performance space for the annual Easter production, and a few teams had played some recreational basketball. But, the space was under-utilized
and the community needed a hub for local events and activities. The building was falling apart and required about $80,000 of masonry repair. There was no cooling, and the heat relied on two industrial gas-fi red heaters suspended from the ceiling. The lights were mostly non-functioning, and the fixtures that did work did not produce nearly enough light for basketball and too much light for theatre productions.
We were able to work within the City’s budget $315,000 budget to replace all of the electrical system, lights, HVAC and all new fi nishes, including a composite multi-purpose court floor. We worked closely with the city’s mayor, resulting in a project that we were all proud of with a net change order amount of $236
